Facebook Changes to Know: A Little Goes A Long Way

 

Facebook changes constantly, sometimes in a big way, sometimes in a small way. Or in this case, the small ways are big! Understanding Facebook and how to use these changes to your advantage can help in your business and save you a lot of time. Here are 10 changes to Facebook you may not have noticed:

1. Photos

Photos now have a new size – bigger and better than ever before. Photos are 25% percent bigger in the new one column format. Facebook photos squares are now 504 x 504 – a size to take advantage of!

2. Tabs

Facebook tabs are still there, but different than before – where before Facebook tabs were displayed as images, now there is a text link to your first tab and a drop down menu to view the rest

3. Left Menu

Left menu sections are now moveable! Everything that is not a page post is now in the left side bar – you can easily move these sections by clicking manage sections with the pencil icon and dragging wherever you wish.

4. Activity Tab

The activity tab now is home to messages and notifications – you can view, respond, and manage messages on your page from the tab.

5. Facebook “Use As” Option

The Facebook “Use as Page” Option has moved – to find it, you must click the drop down arrow at the top right of your Facebook page. From there, click “Facebook Use As” and select the page you would like to use.

6. Website Links

The “About” section of your Facebook automatically displays the URL link to your Facebook page – a link that you had to use hacks to retrieve before, is now easily accessible right on your Facebook!

7. Reviews

If you have a local business page, your reviews will now be easier to find and read. Located right under the profile image at the top left of the page, simply scroll over see a breakdown of your ratings.

8. Posts to Page

Posts to page are now more visible and, like everything else, has moved to the left side of the page – larger and more visible than before so you can be sure not to miss it!

9. Settings

They key settings of your Facebook are now bundled in one area under the settings tab – make it easier to find and update!

10. Page Action Snapshots

Snapshots of page action are now available – the snapshot allows you to look over statistics of the week just by hovering over different areas of Facebook, such as page likes or post reach, to see more information.

Facebook Image Enhancement

Last week, Facebook changed the ways an image is shown when sharing links or Ads! If you haven’t noticed in the past, if you would have shared a link with your friends the picture would have only been the size of thumbnail. These images were not very dynamic or eye catching and were not too helpful in boosting click thru  rates.

With this recent update, the image will now be full-width! This new format that Facebook has introduced will impact Page post link Ads, Page like Ads, offer ads, and event Ads. It also is a continuation of a program where marketers were able to have three different Ad placements, including Page Post Like Sponsored Story, Page Post Comment Sponsored Story, and Page Post Ad. However, now they are all consolidated into a new Ad unit where the context would be on top of the image.

A picture is worth a thousand words, which is why it’s so important that your image stands out! With a strong image, people will notice and be lured in by your post or Ad even more. The larger/crisper the image, the more people will take notice and actually read the post and/or click/like the link.

Strategic Facebook Design And Development

At Sircle Media we pride ourselves on our Facebook App design and development.  We think it is a very important component of the social footprint and we thoroughly enjoy creating features that will satisfy our client’s needs.  We’ve recently been working though a new “Look Inside” Tab and we thought we would share the thought process with you.

Top Feature Box:
This is the real estate at the top of the page.  It can be flush to the edges or we can create an actual “feature box” to properly frame it.  You can feature video or images, but most importantly it should be a powerful piece of content with meaningful presentation.  This could be a look book, a large showcase that presents a new line or just a graphic with a BUY NOW feature that encourages that traffic go back to the website to purchase product. EXAMPLE

Inside Look Box
This is a new feature we have recently rolled out that is very popular.  It was created in response to a lot of prospects and clients telling us that they struggle with having their audience know their full capabilities or product offerings.  This “deeper look inside” allows us to feature additional products and/or services in a smart way.  We showcase thumbnails (generally 4-6) and then have a brief product description accompany the most recently clicked image. (along with a larger feature or “show case” of that image)   All images click through to the website for a more detailed description and hopefully a purchase.  Also if the content lives on a website we can add a Facebook Like button to that image and when LIKE’d it will create an event on that user’s newsfeed, showing others that they engaged with that image. Great content marketing! EXAMPLE

Integration of Other Social Platforms:
We like to make it very simple for a user who finds this tab to locate the brand on other social networks.  People like to receive or engage with content in different ways and we think it is mission critical to help facilitate that.  We customize follow icons for whichever we (client and Sircle Media) deem relevant and then try to help users navigate to these profiles in a simplified way.  EXAMPLE
